Before Anesthesia
- Please do not eat or drink anything, including water, for 8 hours before your appointment at Sacramento Surgical Arts PC.
- If you are a smoker, please refrain from smoking for at least 12 hours before your surgery. Alternatively, just quit smoking as soon as possible before the day of surgery.
- You should be accompanied by a responsible adult when you come to our Sacramento office. That person should remain in the office during your procedure and drive you home when it is finished.
- For 24 hours, please do not drive a vehicle or operate complex machinery.
- On the day of your surgery, we ask that you wear loose fitting clothing (with rollable sleeves) and low-heeled shoes.
- You will be asked to remove your contact lenses, jewelry, or dentures for the surgery.
- Don't wear lipstick, cosmetics or nail polish on the day of your surgery.
- Notify us if you are ill on the day of your surgery. In these cases, we may need to reschedule for your safety.
- Notify us about your medications, so we can provide instructions about scheduling them around your surgery.
Questions to Consider Before Your Appointment
Before undergoing anesthesia, you will be asked to fill out our Pre-Op Anesthesia Questionnaire. This form will include the following questions
- Do you have heart troubles?
- Do you take heart or blood pressure medications?
- Do you get pains in your chest when you exercise?
- Do you get pains in your chest when you rest?
- Do you have troubles breathing?
- Do you have bronchitis or a chronic cough?
- Do you feel short of breath at times?
- Is it difficult for you to climb stairs?
- Do you or did you smoke?
- Do you drink alcohol on a regular basis?
- Do you have diabetes?
- Have you had Hepatitis, liver disease, or yellow jaundice?
- Have you had Kidney disease?
- Do you have ulcers or stomach problems?
- Do you have a hiatal hernia?
- Do you have constant back or neck pain?
- Do you have any limb paralysis, numbness or weakness?
- Do you have any muscle or nerve diseases?
- Do you have arthritis?
- Do you ever have trouble with any anesthesia in the past?
- Have any of your blood relatives had problems with anesthesia in the past?
- Do you have any bleeding problems?
- Have you had a blood transfusion?
- Do you have loose, chipped, false teeth, or bridgework?
- Have you taken cortisone in the past 6 months?
- Do you get claustrophobia?
- Do you have thyroid problems?
